Train Ride!

On Saturday, June 23 my parents and I took the two boys on the Prairie Dog Central (a vintage passenger train that travels from Winnipeg to Warren Manitoba - about 1 hour from Winnipeg and then back again). In the summer they have special theme days and the day that we were on the train, it was their 'family day'. This meant that the train would stop at Grosse Isle on the way to Warren, where we could get off and enjoy the mini-fair the locals put on. There was an inflatable slide for the kids, carnival games like the bean bag toss, water relay, etc. After which, each of the kids got a prize. There was a mini train ride and a small petting farm. On a normal summer day it would have been a great thing to enjoy with the family. But the day we chose to go, it was the hottest and most humid day yet this summer. The temperature alone was 33 degrees clecius plus the humidity which made it feel like 40 degrees. This train was so old that there was no airconditioning except for the breeze that was created by opening the windows. Hanging around outside for 4 hours was not esay for the kids (or adults) as there was no air movement at all. But we all had fun none the less. Carter loved the idea of the conductor coming through the train and punching our tickets ('just like on Polar Express Mom'), hearing him yell "all aboard!", and then having the porters helping us on and off the train. He thought it was so cool to be on a real train. I too, was quite excited as I had never been on a train before either.

At the train station before we loaded. I think I was as excited as Carter was for the ride.

Ready to go for the train ride with Nana and Papa.

Hanging out together.

Carter could not get enough of the view. He was amazed by the vehicles stopping on the highways waiting for us to cross, the people waving as we came by, the flowers in the ditches, the tractors in the fields and pretty much anything else he could see out of his window.

Once there, we had lunch and started to check things out. There was a clown there with his balloons. Carter got him to make a sword for himself.

Here is the inflatable fire truck for the kids to enjoy.

practicing his aim with the bean bag toss.

Beating mom in the water relay.

The water pump was a huge hit as it was fun to pump but it was also fun to get wet seeing as it was so hot out.

Waiting for the water. Yes, it did happen where he waited a little too long and got it right in the face. But he didn't mind much as it cooled him off.

Jaxon even got in on the fun. He loved the cold water too.

Enjoying the shade and a freezie while listening to some local entertainment.

The mini train. I think Carter liked to ride it because it would create a bit of a breeze for a little while at least.

Jaxon even was able to get comfortable enough to sleep. That cloth was cold and wet and he loved it.

All aboard!!! Back on the train and heading home.

Trying anything to keep cool. Jaxon loved that cold, wet cloth that day. I think he just loved anything cool and wet.

He even drank water out of the bottle cap.

Trying to relax and enjoy the ride back to the station.

Getting some help from the porter. The service on the ride was amaizing. Everyone was so helpful and nice.

The end of our trip. We had a great day aside from the heat. Carter still talks about it now. He loved every minute.
